Know Your Bets For A Night At The Dogs

A Night at the Dogs is one of the most popular stag party activities in Ireland. Legions of stag party groups kick off their nights shenanigans with some food. And don’t forget plenty of beers and of course some bets. All before heading on into town to party the night away.

You might even be thinking you’ll be able to pay for the whole night by winning big at the dogs. It’s happened plenty of times where stags have secured a nice little drinks kitty from a few bets placed. If you’ve never been to the dogs or ever placed a bet make sure to know your bets for a night at the dogs before going.

So with that in mind I’ve put a handy little list together to help you on the night and to understand what the hell people are talking about.

Win or Straight or Single bet – This is the easiest one. You simply bet on who the winner will be. You’ll only collect your winnings should your greyhound cross the line first.

Place – If you put down a Place bet you will only collect if your greyhound finishes in 1st or 2nd.

Show – If you decide to go with a Show bet you will only collect if your greyhound finishes in 1st,2nd, or 3rd.

Across The Board – If you decide to go Across The Board, you’ll be placing 3 individual bets on the one dog to Win, Place and Show. If your greyhound comes first you collect all 3 bets. If he comes in second you collect the Place and Show winnings. And finally, if he comes in 3rd you’ll only collect the show bet.

So for example if you decided to place a bet of €5 Across The Board bet, it would cost €15.

Reverse Forecast – This is where you place a bet on 2 greyhounds to finish 1st or 2nd in either order.

Straight Forecast – This is where you place a bet on 2 greyhounds to finish in an exact chosen order.

Treble Forecast – Betting on 3 greyhounds to finish in an exact chosen order.

These are just some of the standard bets you’ll be placing on the night. After a few drinks it’s probably a good thing to keep it simple. So now you know your bets for a night at the dogs.
